10 Ha Herzl, Yad Vashem, Machneyudah
Day Five was a somber day of respect, starting out at Ha Herzl, and then moving on to Yad Vashem. Ha Herzl is the final resting place most of Israel’s leaders, and those of the World Zionist Organization. It is also the burial site for many of the Israeli military. Nearby is Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of the dead; honoring Jews who fought against their Nazi oppressors and Gentiles who selflessly aided Jews in need; and researching the phenomenon of the Holocaust in particular and genocide in general, with the aim of avoiding such events in the future. Photography is generally not permitted in the main museum - where history of the rise of Hitler, genocide throughout Europe, extermination at the death camps, and finally the end of World War II is documented for all to be reminded - never again… The evening includes a stroll through the Machneyuda Market and then restaurant.
